According to Skymet Weather, a Western Disturbance is over North of Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir. An induced cyclonic circulation is over central Pakistan and adjoining parts of West Punjab.

A trough is extending from Kerala to south-east Rajasthan across coastal Karnataka, Madhya Maharashtra and western parts of Madhya Pradesh. An anti-cyclone is over Odisha and adjoining parts of Chhattisgarh.

During the last 24 hours, light to moderate rain with one or two intense heavy spells occurred over Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Light rain occurred over, Assam, Sikkim and sub–Himalayan West Bengal. Parts of Madhya Pradesh recorded very light rain in isolated pockets.

Day and night temperature increased by 2 to 3 degrees across Western Himalayas, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, easter Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Chhattisgarh.

During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain and snow is expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Ladakh and Muzaffarabad. Light rain is expected over parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Isolated light to very light rain may occur over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and parts of Rajasthan on March 17th and 18th.

Rain activities will intensify over Central India on March 18th and 19th. Many parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and some parts of south-east and east Rajasthan may receive light to moderate rain during that time. Isolated light rain may occur over Arunachal Pradesh and pass of Assam.

Union ministry of earth science’s air quality monitoring centre’s System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (Safar) said that the air quality in the Capital was going to remain in the poor to moderate category, Hindustan Times reported.

“AQI is likely to stay in the moderate to lower end of poor category for next two days. An increase in dust contribution is expected in the coming days. Poor AQI is forecast for March 19,” Safar said in its daily bulletin on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in the national Capital is likely to be 18 degree Celsius (°C) while the maximum temperature is predicted to be 34°C.

5-Day Nationwide Forecast

According to Weather.com, a fresh western disturbance as a cyclonic circulation lies over North Pakistan and its neighbourhood. Under its influence:

i) Isolated to scattered rainfall/snowfall are very likely over the Western Himalayan region (Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand) on 17th and 18th March, and over adjoining plains of northwest India on 18th and 19th March.

ii) Isolated thunderstorms and lightning are also very likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh on 17th March, and over the adjoining plains of northwest India on 18th March.

Thereafter, the next western disturbance will feed heavy snow with thunderstorms and hail in the Western Himalayan region from Sunday. Snow totals exceeding 150cm are possible in some places of Jammu & Kashmir from Sunday, for the subsequent two days

Further, the interaction between mid-level westerlies and lower level easterlies is set to cause:

i) Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) over Madhya Pradesh during the next five days; over Vidarbha during 17th-21st March, and over Chhattisgarh during 19th-21st March.

ii) Isolated hail storms over East Madhya Pradesh on 19th March; over West Madhya Pradesh during 18th-19th March, and over Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh on 19th March.

Meanwhile, a trough in westerlies in lower and middle tropospheric levels is also likely to cause isolated to scattered rainfall over Northeast India during the next two days. No heatwave is expected over the country during the next five days, except over Saurashtra & Kutch, where heatwave conditions in isolated places are very likely on 17th March.

Regional Forecast

Isolated rain/snow is likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Isolated rain has been forecast over Kerala and Coastal Karnataka.

Heatwave conditions with day temperatures exceeding 40°C are on the cards over isolated places of coastal Western India such as West Saurashtra & Kutch and Konkan & Goa. Dry and calm weather is very likely over the rest of the country.
