Vietnam’s Phu Quoc is emerging as an attractive resort destination for RoK's travelers, as visitor numbers from this market continue to rise and play an increasingly important role in the local tourism industry.
According to a Vietnam News Agency correspondent in Seoul, RoK media reported on May 2 that Phu Quoc, once considered a “hidden gem” two decades ago, is now undergoing a remarkable transformation driven by tourism infrastructure development and the emergence of a wide range of high-end resorts.
This transformation can be regarded as one of the most dramatic makeovers in Vietnam’s modern history.
According to statistics, RoK remains one of Vietnam’s largest international tourist markets, with millions of arrivals each year.
While Da Nang used to be a go-to destination for Korean travelers, the trend is gradually shifting southward, with Phu Quoc increasingly referred to by Koreans as the “Jeju of Vietnam.”
At restaurants and tourist information counters across Phu Quoc, written materials typically follow a specific order of priority: Vietnamese first, followed by Korean. English usually comes third, or sometimes fourth if Russian is also included.
In addition to vibrant entertainment activities, Phu Quoc is also rapidly developing high-end resort offerings tailored to privacy and nature-based experiences.
Many resorts report that South Korean visitors account for a significant share of their clientele, in some cases exceeding 70 percent of total guests. Factors such as safety, convenient travel, and the expansion of direct flights from Incheon to Phu Quoc are contributing to the growing influx of Korean tourists.
RoK's experts believe that the growth of this market plays a crucial role in the island’s transformation. Phu Quoc is steadily establishing itself as one of the leading resort destinations in Southeast Asia, while continuing to strengthen its appeal among South Korean travelers in the time ahead.
