From August 18 to 22, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Queen Jetsun Pema Wangchuck of Bhutan will pay a state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of President Luong Cuong and his spouse. This marks the first visit by Bhutan’s highest-ranking leader to Vietnam since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2012.

Amidst the modest bilateral trade, the two countries agree to foster collaboration and work together for the opening of a direct air route in the time to come.

China opposed funding to a project for the Sakteng Wildlife Sanctuary in Bhutan, saying it was “disputed” territory.

Several groups of Vietnamese citizens have returned home from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives.
