Deep in the forests of Muong Nhe, a border-area school once burdened by severe shortages has undergone a remarkable transformation. Behind this change lies the journey of an open letter sent from Vietnam’s western frontier, connecting compassionate hearts thousands of kilometers away.

Amid the vast mountains of the highlands, simple classrooms still echo with the sound of students reading aloud. Under the early summer sunshine, Hmong and Ha Nhi ethnic minority students study attentively, continuing a story of perseverance and a desire for change through education.

The People’s Committee of Sin Ho Commune in Lai Chau Province, in coordination with Plan International Japan and Plan International Vietnam, held an inauguration ceremony for a new student boarding facility at Phang So Lin Semi-Boarding Primary School on the morning of May 13. The project was built with financial support from the people of Japan through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan.

Children in the project schools demonstrated a improvement in both early literacy learning and math skills.
