Resolution No. 06-NQ/TW, issued by the Politburo on May 19, 2026, on implementing the foreign policy set forth at the 14th National Party Congress, establishes the goal of developing Vietnam's external relations in the new era in a manner commensurate with the country's historical stature, cultural heritage, and international standing.

The year 2025 marked a dynamic, comprehensive, and in-depth period for Vietnam’s external relations, against the backdrop of an increasingly complex and unpredictable global and regional landscape. Upholding a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, multilateralization, and diversification of international relations, Vietnam has continued to consolidate its position, credibility, and increasingly important role on the international stage.

The Vietnamese Party and State always attach great importance and give top priority to the good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, and comprehensive, long-term, and sustainable cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia, said Le Hoai Trung, chairman of the Vietnamese Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on November 7 asked newly-appointed ambassadors and heads of Vietnamese representative offices abroad to work to deepen cooperation between Vietnam and foreign countries and territories.
