Community-based HIV testing, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), multi-day Methadone dispensing, and the involvement of community groups are helping HIV/AIDS prevention and control efforts reach at-risk populations and patients more effectively. Based on practical experience in many localities, the health sector is gradually adjusting its implementation methods toward greater flexibility, reducing barriers to accessing services and supporting long-term treatment adherence.

The Minister of Health said the United States President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) has helped Vietnam gradually control HIV/AIDS and maintain the community infection rate below 0.3%.

At the pre-conference meetings of the 24th International AIDS Conference held in Montreal, Canada (from July 27 to August 2), at a satellite session organized by PATH, Vietnam was selected to share experiences on successful implementation of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) programs.

Effective prevention and awareness-raising activities, innovative and sustainable financial mechanisms are considered key drivers behind Vietnam’s success in containing HIV/AIDS in the past 30 years.
