The People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province has fully handled all cases of fishing vessels that violated regulations by losing connection to their vessel monitoring systems, achieving a 100% resolution rate. This outcome was recognized by an inspection delegation from the Ministry of Justice as a clear improvement in the province’s efforts to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has signed Official Dispatch No. 03/CD-TTg, dated January 13, 2026, calling for continued high focus and determined implementation of tasks to combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. The dispatch stresses the need to resolutely address existing shortcomings, prevent any loopholes or gaps in organization and law enforcement, and strictly prohibit the legalization of violations. It also clearly states that no reports claiming “100% completion” should be made while IUU violations have not been thoroughly and definitively resolved.

Ahead of the deployment for missions to prevent and combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing during the 2026 Lunar New Year, Major General Nguyen Van Dung visited, encouraged, and assigned tasks to officers and personnel aboard vessel KN-373, underscoring their sense of responsibility, political resolve, and determination to uphold the rule of law at sea.

Naval Squadron 42 (under Coast Guard Region 4 Command) has implemented a QR code for the “IUU Electronic Handbook” at fishing ports, boat docks, and on fishing vessels, helping fishermen easily look up legal regulations and improve compliance awareness while operating at sea.

On November 4, at the 20th meeting of the National Steering Committee for Combating Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh instructed ministries, sectors, and localities to simultaneously implement key tasks: review, license, and handle fishing vessels that fail to meet requirements; fully digitize fishery management data; and strictly investigate and penalize IUU violations both domestically and abroad. These efforts aim to have the European Commission (EC)’s “yellow card” lifted as soon as possible.
