Vietnamese Cheo Shines on International Stage
	Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Dy Nien: Proud of Vietnam’s Standing on International Stage

According to the Consulate General of Vietnam in Guangzhou, the meeting was a meaningful activity reflecting the close attention of the Vietnamese representative mission to the younger generation - the country's future economists. It also served as an important source of encouragement for the students representing Vietnamese intellect on the international academic stage.

At the meeting, Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung stressed that the competition was not only an opportunity for members of the national team to demonstrate their capability, thinking and in-depth knowledge in economics, finance and business, but also a valuable occasion to exchange experiences, learn from one another and promote the image of Vietnamese youth to friends around the world.

The Consul General expressed his profound confidence in today's younger generation, and said they are carrying forward the traditions of previous generations while bringing Vietnam's aspirations and intellect to the world.

He wished all members of the team confidence, composure and determination throughout every stage of the competition, hoping they would enjoy a memorable journey, compete to the best of their abilities, achieve outstanding results and bring glory to the homeland. He also expressed his sincere appreciation to the teachers for their dedication and guidance in helping the students achieve remarkable accomplishments.

During the meeting, Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung also shared notable achievements in Vietnam-China economic cooperation, noting that China continues to affirm its position as Vietnam's largest trading partner. He emphasized that the current international economic environment offers many opportunities for young people and that the knowledge the students gain through the IEO will become a valuable asset for their future.

The Consul General also highlighted the remarks made by General Secretary and State President To Lam at the 13th National Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union for the 2026-2031 tenure in June 2026 on promoting the movement "Vietnamese Youth Pioneer the New Era," under which investing in young people means investing in the country's competitiveness. He affirmed that the Consulate General of Vietnam in Guangzhou would always be ready to provide support and serve as an important bridge for academic exchanges and cooperation between Vietnam and China.

As 2026 marks the first year of the Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026-2027 as well as China's APEC Year, welcoming and encouraging the Vietnamese IEO team also contributes to enhancing mutual understanding and connectivity between the two peoples.

On behalf of the team, Head of Delegation Tran Ngoc Hung said that the International Economics Olympiad is a prestigious intellectual competition bringing together outstanding students from many countries and territories around the world. Vietnam's participation vividly demonstrates the quality of the country's education and the potential of its younger generation in economics, one of the key sectors in the national development strategy. It also reflects the education sector's continuous efforts to integrate internationally and elevate Vietnamese intellect.

Concluding the meeting, Consul General Nguyen Viet Dung once again wished the Vietnamese national team confidence, composure and determination to achieve success at the 2026 International Economics Olympiad. His heartfelt remarks were not only words of encouragement but also a reminder of the younger generation's responsibility to continue writing glorious chapters in the nation's history of international integration and development. The timely support and encouragement from the Consulate General provided a strong source of motivation, giving the team greater confidence on its journey to conquer the international academic arena.

According to information updated at 5:00 p.m. (local time) on July 19, 2026, the Vietnamese national team announced that, in its first-ever in-person participation at the International Economics Olympiad, it won two bronze medals, awarded to Nguyen Thanh Truc and Hoang Duc Minh. In addition to the students' achievements, Nguyen Thanh Tam received the "Highest award for innovation in economics teaching." These achievements are not only a source of pride for the students and their school but also clear evidence of the growing recognition of the quality of Vietnam's education on the international stage.
